Then, I’m constantly extremely sceptical of people who are either extremely extremely pro or extremely very versus online mental health care.}
I signed up for 4 very different online mental health services– ranging in cost from free to , 100 a month– and ran my stress and anxieties through them all, simultaneously, for a week. Here’s what I discovered.
Does BetterHelp use licensed therapists? Better Help Europe
What I’m doing here is examining my experience of using each mental health service, instead of its effectiveness – due to the fact that even the most wizard-like therapist isn’t going to ‘treat’ you in simply one week. I’m just comparing each service to the experience of sitting in a space and blarting on about yourself to a therapist. Nod if you’re with me. Okay, cool – let’s psychological health!
How does it work?
As seen on FB (by me, anyway), US company is the business leviathan of the e-counselling game. They claim to have 500 certified counsellors working for them, each with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
After filling in a questionnaire to determine what particular flavour of mental you are, you’re coupled with a counsellor, who you can mercilessly swap for a different one at any time. (I got Dr. Laura Dabney, from Virginia). You then start an instantaneous messaged therapy session that both you and your counsellor can drop in and out of, and which could, in theory, go on and on until among you eventually passed away.
What does it cost?
You get a free seven-day trial – much like a totally free Netflix or Amazon Prime trial, other than with method more questions about what your childhood was like. After that, it costs from , 24.50 a week for unlimited message-based counselling and one ‘free’ phone session with your counsellor per month. Yeah, I do not get how it’s totally free either, however whatever.
How much is BetterHelp monthly?
If you discover the concept of baring your soul to a complete stranger a bit awks, filtering that through immediate messaging might be valuable. You will not get the same connection as with face-to-face counselling, but the semi-anonymity may make it easier to open up if you have actually been consuming two bottles of rum and dancing around in your dead nan’s wedding dress every night.
She first determined the scale of my anxiety, what triggers it– social scenarios, meeting individuals for the very first time– and then dived headlong into my fractious youth (separated parents, strained familial relationships, bullied in junior school). She was pretty nosey tbh, but then that’s her job, isn’t it?
In general, the service is remarkably slick. The conversation can be a little stop-starty at times, but it was actually a far smoother and more on-tap experience than I anticipated. I even got rapid responses to messages over the weekend, which was unanticipated.
Talkspace vs Betterhelp
The truth you can modify messages prior to sending them indicates you’re not likely to blurt out something revealing and vulnerable in the heat of the minute. Extensive minutes of realisation may be difficult to come by if you can’t get a relaxed flow going.
Who do I believe it might it be good for?
Anyone with a low-end mental health issue who’s cool with getting counselled in a really internet-y, 2016-y way. If you’re living under the blackest, bleakest cloud imaginable and require serious attention (and possibly some medications), probably isn’t for you Better Help Europe
